What I do when the short days and long nights of winter are here.

Since moving to Sturbridge I have become a really crafty person.   I had to find something to do with my time during the long dark winter.  I wasn't, still not, use to it getting dark at 5pm.  I was accustomed to day light until 7 in the winters.  So I had to find things to do to keep myself busy after 5.  I couldn't sit on the computer all night, I can only color and play games with the kid for so long.   What else is there to do?  I like to draw, I knew how to crochet and sew.  So I do one or more craft projects a day.

I recently taught myself how to knit, so now my kids and I all have 20 knitted hats each.   Crazy!

My daughter and I have also started to make, as she calls them, hair thingys.  She loves them, I love them too because now she lets me style her hair again without a big fight.

So......What do you do on long winter nights?

Photo Adventures.

The last Monday of  every month I will post a few works from my photo adventures I go on.

Here are some works from my January Photo Adventure:

This is one that I captured in our front yard just after the sun set.  It was pointed out by a few people that it looks like something that you would see in Narnia.

I am in LOVE with the way the sun light glitters off the snow.  I love how I have it only in focus at the bottom of the picture and the rest turns into a soft bokeh.

The icicles coming off our house amaze me.  How is it that when it is 17 degrees outside water is still dripping from houses and trees forming these beautiful icicles.

This years goals

My goals:
  • Post on my blog at least twice a week
  • Start advertising in one of the local papers
  • Meet up with other local photographers for Photo Adventures.
  • Finish my 100 faces {telling stories} Project
I wanted to do happy things today, like set reachable goals and do fun craft projects with my kids because today would be a sad day for me if I didn't do busy work.  5 years ago on this date my Dad passed away from a double brain aneurysm.  I miss him.  So today I am packing my day full of non-stop fun.  First step was making reachable goals, next up is craft time with my children.

About Me.....

I don't like to talk about myself much so this is little hard for me.   To sum it up......I am a mother to three wonderful kids, a wife to a very supportive husband, a sister, a daughter and an artist.

(the above photo was taken by my oldest son in 2011)

More details.....

I started my interest in photography at a very young age, I have pictures I took of cats and flowers from when I was around 8 years old.  Photography took a back seat for a little bit, while I dreamed of becoming an animator for Disney.  That dream stuck with me and I started to go to art school for computer animation.  When reality struck, one of my teachers said "who here wants to work for Disney?  Well look around, only one, if that, will get in!"  So I started a backup plan of Graphic Design.  I had to take the required photography class and became hooked again on photography and have since that first class back in the summer of 1998.

(taken for light play on one of my 365 projects)

Let me see....I love hot green tea (in almost every flavor they have). George's Pizza is my favorite local pizza place. TJ O'Briens is my favorite local restaurant/bar. I enjoy walking around Old Sturbridge Village with my kids. Dark Chocolate is my weakness. I have a need to create art. I can not go one day without doing some form of art. Taking photos, painting, knitting, the list just goes on and on.

I am not sure what else you would like to know so if you have a question email me at pictureme@ojwstudios.com. I will try to answer all questions on this blog, unless it is too personal.
